It is a different age now, the fact that it seems a lot of people cannot afford to rest on their laurels and fully retire from the paid work force, makes my above statement antiquated and your point more valid. If you have no income coming in, or a limited government issued check you are in effect trying to make it to the next check and there is no thought to saving if you haven’t done so by that point.
